In the company of wolf pups

It is a rare thing to see wolf pups, let alone photograph them.

 I have worked as a guide in the Great Bear Rainforest for almost 20 years and I have had many encounters with wildlife that have left me breathless, including wolves. But this is the first close-up portrait of a wolf pup I have ever managed to get. So, yeah, I was feeling incredibly grateful for this moment during a wolf expedition in August 2022.

You take what you get with wolves. Most of the time what you get is a lot of waiting and time to contemplate things. If you’re paying attention, there is always something to see, so all the waiting is okay. Time spent in the wild is always time well spent. But when a curious wolf pup appears out of nowhere and trots past, well, that’s another thing entirely.
