I have teamed up with Marven Robinson of the Gitga’at First Nation to offer two spirit bear watching and photography trips in the Great Bear Rainforest for September 2015. After guiding on the coast for 11 years I don’t know of a better way to have intimate encounters with spirit bears. These trips are going to be something special.
With a group size no larger than six, we will explore wild river valleys in search of spirit bears in a place that National Geographic called the “Wildest Place in North America.” These white bears are important symbols in Gitga’at culture, and the people are protective of them. Thus I cannot reveal the exact locations of the valleys we will visit. But by travelling with Marven we will have freedom and flexibility to explore widely and have access to places that other tour operators cannot go.
If you need more reasons to get excited about this opportunity, check out this film. If you’re short on time start at minute 34. To see some of the photos that Paul Nicklin took for his National Geographic cover story on spirit bears check out this link. During our trip we will be exploring many of the exact locations where this film and these photos were taken. You can also see my personal spirit bear photo gallery here.
